XL Kantha Scarf “THAMBI ” , handcrafted and upcycled from silk sari fabrics and decorated with traditional Kantha embroidery.
An extrardinary beautiful piece !
Tradition and meaning of the Kantha silk scarves
Our Kantha scarves are beautiful unique pieces that have their origin in India. The silk scarves are made from traditional saris and are often put together as a patchwork. In the upcycling process are two hand-woven sari fabrics sewn together and decorated with Kantha embroidery. The special hand sewn lockstitch line gives the silk scarf the name “Kantha”, which is a tradition in West Bengal and Odisha. If you believe the Indian legend, the patchwork Kantha scarves serve as “protectors” and bring protection to babies, young children and the elderly.
Handcrafted Kantha scarves are one-of-a-kind
Every single Kantha silk scarf is handcrafted and unique, which gives you an extraordinary and unique look. Because of the double face material, the Indian silk scarves can not only be used as scarves, but also as sofa- and bedspreads or even as wall decorations in the house. A wonderful accessory that tells a story and brings a silky, colorful note to your everyday life.
Our Kantha silk scarves are fairly produced
We are purchasing our Kantha silk scarves from a small family business in India. As the tradition demands, the silk scarves are handcrafted by women with a big attention to details. The upcycling process takes place under fair conditions. We are happy to partner with them and to carry a small part of India to the western world.
